Vegging On the Veranda!

Sunday, May 1, 2011

What a marvelous day at sea.  We did absolutely nothing except solve the downloading problem with the camera.  We watched a bit of the Beatification ceremony for Pope John Paul II.  Being in the same time zone as Rome made it quite convenient.

Today the seas are calm and the ship is gliding smoothly.  However, a few minutes ago we felt a lurch and heard the crashing of a bottle in the bathroom.  I ran to the sound, and Barney grabbed his GPS.  Sure enough we had crossed the prime meridian at about 7:30 pm on our way back west.  I guess we truly are on our way home.  We are looking forward to getting the lost hours back.  We can use them.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day as we are taking an 8 1/2 hour shore excursion from our port of Motril, Spain to Granada and the Alhambra.  The camera will surely get a good work out…hope it has recuperated from today’s mishap.

We ate dinner the other evening with a couple that had shipped nine suitcases (one of which was filled only with hangers).  They also carried four suitcases with them.  She was lamenting that they have purchased so many items that they will need even more suitcases on the way home.

Today one of the activities scheduled was a race of any animal that you wanted to bring.  We walked through the deck during the activity but couldn’t bring ourselves to take any pictures – the ones you can conjure up have to be better.  There were balloon animals, puppets, one husband in a dog collar, and of course, the stuffed camels.  Don’t know who/what won or what prize they were awarded.

It has been suggested that a better race would be to get all the scooters, motorized chairs, etc. in a race through the buffet line.  Good news, the elevator is fixed and everyone can reach the food even quicker.
