Tilt-a-Whirl!

Monday, April 11, 2011

31 days down, 31 to go!

We have been been looking forward to this sea day so much that even the “tilt-a-whirl” action of the ship couldn’t put a damper on it.  First thing Barney and I said to each other this morning was, “Dorothy would never have been able to even get out of bed on a day like this”.  We are happy to let everyone know that we have heard from her and the pain is much better.  The doctors are waiting for awhile before they decide how to treat her, but Dorothy was excited to have warm weather and try her luck at walking around outside her house.  We all miss her.

One must have goals for days like this…and let’s just say that we didn’t meet our goals.  That is unless they included napping and more napping.  We had lunch with some people we had met on a tour and laughed when they were complaining that they had already taken 935 pictures and their camera would only hold 2000.  We came back to the cabin and checked to find that we have  3,562 photos so far and that does not include the many that we have deleted.  We can hear the sigh of relief as all of you are thinking…glad they are being somewhat selective in what they put on the blog.  I’ve never met a photo op that I didn’t like.  Some didn’t like me as I fell up some stairs trying to get the perfect harbor shot.  Looks worse than it is.

Our laptop came with the new Windows 7 program and it is great for tagging photos.  At least this time when we get home we should have all that done and won’t have to search records to figure out which church is which, etc.

Tonight was another formal night and we went since it is the last formal dinner before Ken and Dee leave the cruise in Venice.  We will miss them.  The formal attire was greatly enhanced by all the seasickness bands adorning all the wrists…at least mine are black.

Don’t know if any of you have clicked on the link at the right hand top of the blog.  Doug added it so you can check to see the location of the ship at any given time.  Venice on the 14th and 15th might be a good time to check it out.  Look for us, we’ll be the couple dressed in tourist gear.

Tonight’s photos are just some “people shots” from yesterday.

The staff on the Prinsendam has always been wonderful.  Most of the staff are either from Indonesia or the Philippines.  We love getting into conversations with them when they have a few extra minutes.  They always seem to enjoy this time also.  One steward thinks he is a “text” machine.  He speaks mostly in letters, hoping that you catch on.  He is VVG!  The other day our room steward was running late and seemed quite harried.  We asked him if he was “short-handed” and he looked at us quizzically and then glanced at his hand and shrugged his shoulders.  We explained and he had a good laugh.

We have been out of sight of land for most of the day, but around noon we could see the boot of Italy off in the distance on the port side.  We were hunkered down for the evening and there just was a knock at the door.  Our steward came bearing a plate of chocolate covered strawberries from the ship’s guest relations department.  We had been “victims” of a very unpleasant odor while in Lipari and they just wanted to say “We’re sorry!”  No need, but they do look wonderful.  You can rest assured that Barney won’t be touching them.

We’re in Kotor tomorrow and are really looking forward to a wonderful experience.
